The following is Part Thirteen of an expanded transcript of a detailed and in-depth interview Patrick Wanis PhD Human Behavior Expert gave to Michele Morrisette with www.PurQi.com  about gurus, cults and brainwashing. Here Patrick Wanis reveals the link between lust, vanity & greed and the marketing by gurus and spiritual healers. Patrick Wanis: A long time ago, somebody in marketing revealed to me: “Here is the secret to marketing. You appeal to only three things, lust, vanity and greed.” Lust: sex; you can get more sex, get more girls. Vanity: you can look younger, be slimmer, be skinnier and; Greed: money, material possessions, instant gratification.

So look at all the marketing with these people. Are they marketing with the intention of making a real difference or are they marketing to lust, vanity and greed? What are they really marketing to, and what is their intention behind it? Is it to satisfy their own needs of lust, vanity and greed?

The same applies to a lot of these other spiritual healers.

For a long time, Deepak Chopra was dyeing his grey hair black. Why?

Why not just accept where you are?

Isn’t that about the Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success? One of Deepak Chopra’s Seven Spiritual Laws of Success is “The Law of Detachment” which refers to acceptance and not being tied to or attached to an outcome or to trying to change others; “Allow yourself and others the freedom to be who they are.”

Isn’t that about spirituality? Isn’t that one of the key principles of spirituality – self-acceptance – accepting yourself as you are? Or are we trying to create an image so that people will like us?

[Description of Deepak Chopra’s book Seven Spiritual Laws of Success from Amazon: “He explains the laws of pure potentiality, giving, karma, least effort, intention and desire, detachment, and dharma and includes useful suggestions on how to apply these fundamental, natural principles if one is truly searching for purpose and a satisfying life.” https://www.amazon.com/The-Seven-Spiritual-Laws-Success/dp/1878424114 ]

Now, there’s nothing wrong with dyeing your hair. There’s nothing wrong with having a facelift. There’s nothing wrong with taking growth hormones to stay young, unless, you teach that those things are not important and you teach that you can create those things with your own power – via visualization, Law of Attraction, thoughts and so forth. Then it’s a problem.

Update: September 2014

Goel Ratzon, a self=styled spiritual guru and cult leader was convicted of various sexual crimes against women within his own ‘family’ – rape, incest and sodomy – some were minors. He fathered 49 children with 21 wives over the years and all of the women lived in one multi-storied building. Ratzon also received large state funds in the form of child benefit payouts.

A documentary film showed how Goel Ratzon (whose name means “savior” in Hebrew) repeated his nightly ritual of choosing one of the women to go to bed with him. “Do you want to come with me?” he asked one girl in her mid-20s.   “Yes,” she said, smiling with relief, as she hugged him. The other women who were the wives or children of Goel Ratzon appeared devastated.

But I think Michelle, to properly answer your question, “How do these people become corrupted?”, the answer is ego, vanity, greed, lust for power. That’s what happened to James Ray. That’s what has happened to a lot of people. And they’re more interested in hanging out with the celebrities than they are hanging out with the average person. Deepak Chopra was often hanging out with celebrities such as Demi Moore and Madonna.

Why are they so important? Unless you truly believe that they’re going to spread your message, why are you hanging out with all the celebs?

As you know, I have high profile clients and yes, some of them are celebrities but you don’t see me walking around with them and being really cool and hip unless I feel and I say to them, “Look, you have the platform. You, Demi Moore, could convince the world to stop being vain or to pray more or to help more,” and guess what, she and her husband Ashton Kutcher are doing something that has nothing to do with anything of Deepak Chopra teachings. They’re trying to stop sex trafficking around the world, human trafficking. It has nothing to do with Deepak or the Kabbalah or anything else. It was their own mission, their own purpose that they found on their own.

So, Michelle, what I commend you for is that you’ve become a skeptic. But there are only two kinds of skeptics. There’s the skeptic that believes that everything is BS and there’s no truth anywhere. Then there’s the skeptic that is the seeker of truth. The seeker of truth keeps an open mind and says, “I’m willing to look at all of the evidence, for and against – because you can challenge my beliefs and it doesn’t matter.”
