“Women that cheat with married men are selfish”, says Los Angeles based Human Behavior & Relationship Expert, Patrick Wanis PhD.

“Women are seduced by the aphrodisiac of power and powerful men” says Dr. Wanis. “Power can take many forms – money, wealth, influence, social status, fame and so forth. Women in relationships often cheat because they feel emotionally invisible in the relationship. However, women who choose to cheat with married men are extremely selfish. They care not about the consequences for the man and his world since the cheating woman is rarely held accountable or blamed for the affair – only the married, powerful and famous man is blamed. The cheating woman does not care whether or not the affair destroys a family, children or the man’s career. And in the case of CIA Director David Petraeus – decorated four-star Army general who once ran the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan- it seems his mistress Paula Broadwell did not care whether or not it negatively impacts the potential security of a nation” says Dr. Wanis.

“The cheating woman only cares about satisfying her own needs and desires – conquering the powerful man, taking him away from another woman, tasting the power & glamour, boosting her own ego by the attention she receives from the petraeus-only-selfish-women-cheat-paula-broadwell1

powerful man or using him as a means to further her career or spear her into the limelight. Hedge fund analyst Danielle Chiesi had an affair with Robert Moffat, Senior VP of IBM, and used him to gave her valuable information which destroyed his career at IBM and put him in prison for six months for insider trading.”

“Paula Broadwell co-author of Petraeus’ biography ‘All In, The Education of General David Petraeus,’ had unprecedented access to the CIA Director and made claims about the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi which was an unpublished bit of information.”

“While most women who cheat with married men do so out of selfishness, self-serving ambition or narcissism, some women might be acting out of emotional immaturity such as Monica Lewinsky who was 22 when she had an affair with US President Bill Clinton.”

Dr. Wanis also reveals that “Society and the media often reward the cheating woman, the woman that brings down the powerful man:

  • NY Governor, Elliot Spitzer’s call girl Ashley Dupre was given her own column in the New York Post
  • Tiger Woods’ mistress Rachel Uchitel appeared in the fourth season of the TV show “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew”
  • US President Bill Clinton’s mistress Monica Lewinsky got a 12 million-dollar book deal. She hosted the reality television dating show, “Mr. Personality” in 2003.”

“Of course, the cheating man is not innocent. Powerful men face greater temptation because they have power, control and command over other people. Power leads to cheating because it can lead to delusions of invincibility, entitlement and the male ego-drive to win, conquer and dominate” says Wanis.

Dr. Wanis says “Human behavior hasn’t changed in over 100 years – Lord Acton said in 1887, ‘All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.'” And women who seek to taste and be immersed in that power also quickly become corrupted.”
